Kyiv, Ukraine – President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine is updating its grain export protection plan, a critical measure to safeguard the nation’s agricultural exports and economic resilience amid the ongoing war. In his evening address on July 24, Zelenskyy detailed a series of high-level meetings and outlined a comprehensive strategy to secure Ukraine’s infrastructure, diversify export routes, and strengthen cooperation with international partners.
The President revealed that he held meetings with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi, Acting Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, and other government officials. “We thoroughly outlined the sequence of steps that can provide greater protection for our cities, villages, the south of the country, and our infrastructure. We are updating the grain export protection plan,” Zelenskyy stated. He stressed the importance of close coordination among all leaders of Ukraine’s security and defense sector, praising their attention to detail and cooperation.
Prime Minister Koretskyi and the government team are tasked with maximizing the diversification of Ukraine’s export and import operations. Zelenskyy highlighted the need for “asymmetric solutions,” including securing fuel supplies, creating additional export routes, implementing support programs for Ukrainian producers, and working closely with partners, neighboring countries, and Brussels. He emphasized that air defense remains the top priority for international assistance, urging partners to fulfill commitments without delay. “Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all our diplomats must act faster, and Ukraine’s needs must be heard more clearly around the world because these are real needs to protect lives,” he added.
The updated plan comes as Ukraine continues to face immense challenges in exporting its agricultural products, a vital sector for its economy and global food security. Russia’s attacks on port infrastructure and grain storage facilities have consistently threatened Ukraine’s ability to export, making the protection of export routes and the diversification of logistics a strategic imperative. Zelenskyy’s announcement signals a proactive effort to adapt to evolving threats and ensure the resilience of Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
